Muscle spasm is a form of abnormal muscular activity. Spasms can be clonic, involving rapid, alternating involuntary muscle contractions and relaxations, or tonic, involving sustained, continuous muscle contractions. A cramp is a sudden, involuntary muscle contraction accompanied by intense pain, typically affecting one or more muscles. It often forces the person to stop their current activity and can even interrupt sleep.
